Deal With The Devil Pt 1 – Getting To My Hotel

So you already know I went down to LA last week to audition for Merv Griffin’s Crosswords, yeah? The entire trip was really a blast, and sort of a mini-vacation too. I head to the airport straight from work on Thursday and check in, then a couple hours later I’m in LAX. I only brought enough stuff to fit into a duffel bag so I wouldn’t have to check anything, so within minutes from getting off the plane I’m in a rental car shuttle and headed to get my car.My trusty iPhone with Google Maps in hand (let me aside here for a moment: had I not had Google Maps available live, my printed maps would have been useless since the rental car counters had moved away from LAX since the last time Expedia updated their information) I hit the LA freeway and head north to my hotel.

Here’s what driving in LA sounds like: I took the 105 to the 110 to the 101. It’s like driving in the East Bay up here, only all the time. Now imagine the worst areas of traffic and bad driving in the Bay Area, and you have what it’s like to drive around LA, again, all the time.

Now that’s not really so bad, since I’ve been living and driving in San Francisco for about 12 years or so, I really felt right at home on the freeways in LA. I take my life into my own hands driving on surface roads around here, so I actually felt a little safer being on the freeway most of the time. Anyway.

It takes some time to get to the hotel, but there was apparently a Dodger game the night I arrived, so that explains the traffic. I arrive and check in, and find I’m in probably one of the nicest rooms that the Best Western Hollywood Hills has to offer! There’s even a restaurant in the hotel, so I go get a burger and head back to my room for some Civ IV and relaxation.

Soon will come Part2, the audition.

Merv Griffin Reaches For Me From The Grave

Update: This was postponed since I booked an acting gig here in SF. I am now going to LA this coming Thursday, September 13th.

It’s happened, that moment you’ve all been waiting for: I’m going to LA next week to audition for a game show.

There’s not really much more to say about that. It’s Merv Griffin’s Crosswords, something I imagine involves a giant checkerboard with letters on it, and pie throwing. I imagine that, but I don’t imagine that what I imagine is correct.

Pie throwing would be nice, though.

I’ll live-blog it while on the way there, but not really since I can’t really live blog from my phone yet. I may work on that too. Otherwise, I’ll take notes and then pretend to live-blog it once I get home. In other words, I’ll write another blog post about it.

The New Break a Leg Site Has Launched

Check it out at www.breakaleg.tv. There’s also a new minisode up that flashes back to slightly before the pilot episode.

The minisode is great so everyone should check it out. I should point out though that their site feed is problemmed. It only subscribes you to an empty subscription with no articles. I had this problem too and it was pointed out that in my case I had not set up my default user in WordPress.

Are you listening Yuri?

Deep Fried Cheese Opens Thursday!

That’s tomorrow, August 2nd. See the sidebar to the right and click on stuff for exact run dates, ticketing info, location, etc. I can’t bear to write it all again.

Am I looking forward to it? Absolutely. I can’t wait to have an audience. My part is mainly one of monologues and more monologues, so my scene partner (the audience) has been absent for several days. It’s hard to get motivated and have a good time when you have no feedback.

Safeway Industrial

I just booked an industrial for Safeway, one of those overnight jobs. I just can’t wait!

Deep Fried Cheese

I’m currently in rehearsals for a great play called Deep Fried Cheese by Tore Ingersoll-Thorp. I’ve worked with him on a number of occasions, he just won’t stop calling me. Anyway, it’s about competitive food eaters, and you should go see it.

We open on August 2nd and run for three weekends. Good times, cheap beer, and eating on stage.

It occurred to me that you might want to know, I don’t know, where it’s playing or some such crap. Just go to http://www.sleepwalkerstheatre.com/ for all the relevants.

Break A Leg Ep2, Pt 3

And yes, I have finally arrived.

Also, as per my prior post, we are posting to Blip.tv instead of YouTube. The video takes longer to load, but the quality is far superior. You will need Quicktime installed on your computer to watch. Don’t worry, if it’s not there then there should be a link to download and install it.

I’ve noticed that the version that embeds in this site is lower-quality than the Quicktime version you can watch directly at Blip.tv. It also probably loads much faster. I’ll leave it up to you.
